You have heard the expression 'going for gold' often enough at athletics championships. In the Isle of Wight this year, it will be a case of the top three in each event 'going for glass' as for the first time in the history of the Island Games the medals will indeed be made out of glass. Each medal will be hand-crafted, and infilled with gold, silver or bronze paste as appropriate. The entire manufacturing process will take place on the Isle of Wight. I thought the medals in Aland were brilliant and the Isle of Wight will have to come up with something pretty special to top them, but this certainly sounds interesting!
